Solid Waste Disposal

Functions
Greenwood County operates a Municipal Solid Waste Landfill designed to meet current SCDHEC regulations. The landfill currently receives approximately 280 tons of municipal solid waste per day. The county also operates a Construction, Demolition, and Land Clearing Debris landfill. Construction type waste meeting regulatory guidelines is disposed of in the landfill. The county also accepts waste tires at its landfill. The tires are sent to a waste tire processing facility where they are processed and chipped to create an environmentally friendly material. Scrap metal and used appliances are also received and sold for recycling. Greenwood County also operates nine Convenience Centers strategically located throughout the County for the disposal of household garbage and recycling.
Responsibilities

Operation of a MSW Landfill for disposal of municipal solid waste

Processing of scrap metal and white goods for recycling

Processing of waste tires for delivery to a waste tire recycler

Documentation of all wastes that enter and exit the landfill

Billing of landfill accounts

Performs regulatory monitoring of groundwater under landfill regulations

Performs regulatory monitoring of methane generation under landfill regulations
This Office Does Not:
-
Provide residential or commercial garbage collection services

Provide removal of dead animals on private property

Provide collection of yard waste within the city limits of Greenwood, Ninety Six or Ware Shoals

All E-waste (computers, monitors, printers, etc.) can be taken to ALL Convenience Centers.
